remote-first
engineering leader

About

Hi friends! I lead the Continuous Integration team at Shopify. We own the git, CI, and merge infrastructure that every engineer depends on: when we get it right nobody notices, and when we get it wrong nobody ships.

What I care about most is the environment engineers work in: the culture, the processes, and the tools. AI has changed all three, which these days means I spend more time writing specs and reviewing output than writing code. I hold the team to the same bar.

Previously, I was CTO and Partner at Chromatic and Director of Application Development at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. I've built and led high-performing remote teams across web, iOS, and now developer infrastructure for over a decade, and I'm a longtime open-source advocate.

I've written and spoken about topics from technical architecture to team dynamics, at events like DrupalCon and Slack's Spec conference.

Away from work: cyclist, traveler, amateur TV critic, F1 fan.
